Tips on Caring for a New Kitten
Congratulations on becoming a new kitten owner! Whether you have one or several kittens, knowing how to care for them properly is extremely important so they start on the right track to a life full of happiness and good health. If you live near Henderson or Las Vegas, and you have recently welcomed a kitten into your family, schedule an appointment with one of our veterinarians at A Cat Hospital. Our veterinarians provide care for kittens and cats throughout every stage of their life. We have put together some kitten care tips to help you during these important first few months of caring for your new pet.
Take Time to Provide A Safe Area
Your kitten is likely to be curious. Because of this, providing it with a safe area to explore and play is a great idea. Get down on all fours and check the areas of the rooms where you intend to keep your kitten. Remove any potential hazards, such as sharp objects, small objects, string or ribbon, and chemicals.
Get the Right Items for Comfort
A kitten needs a few items in your household to keep it comfortable and content. Head to your local pet supply store and pick up a cat dish for feeding, a water bowl, a litter box (or two), grooming supplies such as a comb, brush, and nail clippers, and some age-appropriate toys. Start kittens under the age of eight weeks with kitten milk for proper nutrition. Solid food for kittens can be added to your pet’s diet afterward.
Make an Appointment for A Wellness Checkup
Kittens require veterinary care from a young age to ensure they are healthy. One of our veterinarians will provide your kitten with a full evaluation during his or her first appointment. If your kitten is suffering from a medical issue, treatment options are discussed with you at this time. We also provide preventative care for cats, including vaccinations, parasite treatment, and spaying or neutering services.
